The Gallia County Historical/Genealogical Society's Education Committee has produced three slide programs about the history and culture of Gallia County.

"Around the Public Square"

This 30-minute program is designed especially for elementary students to stimulate interest in local history. After the group views the slide presentation, the teacher receives a self-guided tour map and review sheet to use as they virtually walk around the Gallipolis public square to view the historical landmarks. This program also includes a packet of activities to use in the classroom after the presentation.
(Recommended for Grades Levels 4-6)

"Beyond the Silent Stones"

This slide program gives a scenario of Gallia County's men and women who once lived here and made an dynamic impact upon the community during their life times. It not only educates the viewer about the county's former citizens during the past 200 years but also notes many significant historical events that have occurred. It's content is divided into four time periods setting the stage for each of the selected subjects. As a follow up activity, viewers are encouraged to use a brochure called "Stories Behind the Stone" containing a map and relevant information and take a walking tour of the historic Pine Street Cemetery in Gallipolis.
(Recommended for Grades 6-12 and adults)

"Gallia County's Secluded Landmarks"

This slide program, a Gallia County Bi-centennial Project for 2003, is a journey back in time informing the viewer of the many historical landmarks found on the secluded byways of our county and its villages. These landmarks help present-day citizens to learn about their local history and cultural heritage. Handouts are available to help viewers learn about the county's 15 townships and the geography of the area following the presentation.
(Recommended for Grades 6-12 and adults)

Volunteers are available to present these programs free of charge. These educational programs are not only available to schools but to organizations as well. Please contact the director of the society, Mary Lee Marchi, at 446-7200 for further information and scheduling.
